Christ calls his Church to go forward into all the world with the Truth of His glorious Gospel. Acts 1:8 promises that God will pour out his Spirit on his people to be his witnesses to the ends of the earth. He calls us to make disciples of all nations, including our own and those far away. SGCC has a Deacon of Missions dedicated to overseeing these efforts, both locally and globally.
We believe the most effect method of outreach is at the “grass roots” level, where individual Christians generously serve their neighbors, friends and colleagues in their daily lives. But we also believe that cooperatively we can be effective in ways we can’t individually.
Locally, we desire to serve our community by meeting the real needs of people, both spiritually and physically, for the purpose of exalting Christ and actually making disciples of Jesus. SGCC has served the Roanoke community with activities like service projects, neighborhood Vacation Bible schools, and street evangelism, and the culture of our congregation is one of ongoing learning in discipleship. We also support the work of the Blue Ridge Women’s Center and our members support other missions efforts in Roanoke as well.
Globally, we have partnered with organizations like Sovereign Grace Churches and Global Partners for Peace & Development to increase our effectiveness in reaching the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In recent years we have been sending teams to Haiti for both disaster relief and evangelism/teaching. We also support missionaries and mission efforts through a monthly offering, and are dedicated to praying for people in closed nations around the world.
