On Sundays

When you visit on a Sunday...

For Our Guests

You might be wondering what to expect if you were to visit on a Sunday morning. If that’s true, then read on.  If you’d like to learn more about how our local church functions during the week, see the Life Together section.

If you like coming early, join our prayer team at 9:00-9:30am to pray – children are welcome. Our main meeting begins at 10am to worship all together. We sing and celebrate. Then we dismiss children to their classes and hear a message from the Bible that’s applicable to our lives.

If you have questions before you come, you are welcome to direct them to Connie, our secretary, at secretary@sovereigngrace.cc or 540-366-1000.

Sunday Mornings

Every church has a culture of its own. Part of our culture that guests often comment on is that we make people feel welcome – we think it’s because we’re just glad to have them join us!  Every guest is an honored guest, and every member is grateful to be a part of a local congregation of people who have been saved by grace.

Below are several other key elements that you can expect on any given Sunday…

Worship

“Your Name and renown are the desire of our hearts” Is. 26:8

The Music Ministry of SGCC exists to help people focus on the greatness of God as He is revealed to us in the Bible. We choose songs to sing together which teach doctrine to our minds while also engaging our hearts. We sing a mix of modern and traditional hymn lyrics, set to a contemporary music style. Our musicians understand that Sunday morning is not a performance for a crowd, and that our audience is an audience of One; we are have the privilege of singing together to Him.

“Praise the LORD in song, for He has done excellent things…” Is. 12:5

Each week, we post the Sunday songs for our musicians to practice. You can get a good feel for our Sunday experience from that playlist, found here.

Preaching & Teaching

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” — 2 Timothy 4:2

We believe the Bible is the very word of God, and we place the highest priority on the Bible as the final authority on all matters of life, faith and practice. As such, thoroughly and carefully preaching and teaching the Word of God is basic to everything we do.

Generally, we preach through one book of the Bible at a time, not skipping difficult passages. In our preaching, we focus on how the Bible can be applied in our lives individually, as families, and as a church. We also believe that every book of the Bible is part of one complete story, placed by inspiration of God to draw us closer to him as we understand it better.

For Children: SG Kids

We believe there is great value in having parents and children worship together in song. But the sermon can be more difficult to follow for younger listeners so we offer SG Kids during the preaching time.

SG Kids is designed to meet the same need as preaching (proclaiming the Truth to young hearts in hopes that they will respond), and is open to children ages 1-11. SG Kids is a safe and friendly environment where children will learn about God from qualified teachers using a solid, biblically sound curriculum.

MinistrySafeWe take safety of our children seriously. All our teachers and assistants are background checked and trained for various emergency situations. We utilize ministrysafe.com to train volunteers to protect our children.

Parents with children in SG Kids can rest easy and focus all their attention on hearing God’s Word, knowing that their children are in good hands and learning about Jesus.

You’re Welcome

So we invite you to join us this Sunday at 10am to worship our great God together. If you are not a Christian or are a Christian looking for a church home, we trust you will feel welcome by the people at Sovereign Grace Community Church.
