The God Who Sees

The God who Sees

“L-L-L-L-Let’s get rrrrrrrready to rumble!” are the five trademark words that ring announcer Michael Buffer has used to amass an estimated $150 million-dollar fortune over the past thirty years.  When you hear his iconic voice and that unforgettable patented phrase, you know a rousing sporting event is about to take place.

In the Bible, prophets were God’s mouthpiece – God’s spokesmen announcing what they had seen or heard from God. Like a ring announcer, a prophet would often broadcast God’s perspective, usually calling God’s people to some sort of response.  The messages of the prophets made it clear that God was watching them and was not ignorant or neutral to anything that was happening in both their private and corporate lives.  He saw everything! Think about that for just a moment … God sees everything.

There is not a happening in all the earth that God has not watched.  Every birth, every marriage ceremony, every dad teaching his daughter to ride a bike, every baptism, every welcome home party etc.  God has had a front row seat to every anonymous gift card given, every kind letter written, every encouraging hug or cheer.  He has been an eye-witness to every good deed.  When Hagar felt totally abandoned and ostracized by her family, she was amazed that God would send an angel directly to her to encourage her; she called God “El Roi” (the God who sees).  Christian, God is watching you.  He sees every action done in the name of Christ … He is pleased.  Heaven awaits with video recordings and exacting records.  Do not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time you will reap a harvest if you do not give up. (Galatians 6:9).

He also sees every sin. Every time Israel committed idolatry.  Every time a priest misused his position.  Every indecency, every foul word, every evil thought.  Think about that for a moment.  God was an eye witness to every evil happening in Israel: every murder, every rape, every abusive happening, every bullying event, every slandering, every gossiping, every blasphemy, every lustful thought, etc.  Imagine the toll it would take upon a human heart to see every single time a person abused a small child or an innocent woman.  It would be devastating, no doubt the watcher would likely be overwhelmed even unto death. Can you imagine the fury of a human father watching just once a stranger or a relative abuse his innocent daughter?

Now, can you begin to imagine what it must be like to be the Creator of mankind and knowing that every sin you witnessed was done against you and those created in your image! But God is so great that, not only is He the “God who sees,” but even more amazingly, He is the God who is willing to forgive those who have been guilty of such crimes (even after watching them!).  This was the incredible message of prophet after prophet.  Israel was so fortunate to have such a God, and Christian, you are so blessed to have such a Savior.  Isaiah was the prophet who famously announced to the world the coming Savior who would take the place of the sinner … Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities (Is 53:11).  Now that is an announcement that cannot be patented; an unforgettable truth that is meant to rouse the world to eternal anticipation and gratitude.
